La Salle on the Road

As you may know, every month La Salle invites alumni and friends to “Conversation with the President” dinners here at the school. In February and March, we will be taking the reception on the road to sunny Southern California and Florida. If you’re in the area, please join us.

First stop is San Diego, California! Dr. Guerriero will be having dinner with alumni on Tuesday, February 24th, at 6:00 pm. Are you nearby and want to attend? Contact Ismini Scouras in the Development office.

Then, the second stop is Florida. We are hosting a Florida Alumni Reception on Friday, March 6th, at the DoubleTree in Deerfield Beach, Florida. If you live in Florida or just happen to be there on vacation, please come! RSVP by contacting our Development office.

Are there other Brothers’ Boys in your area? We want to include you in the conversation. Let us know and we’ll plan a reception in your city!

“That’s what I do now: I lead and I teach. If we win basketball games from doing that, then that’s great, but I lead and teach. Those are the two things I concentrate on.” – Mike Krzyzewski

La Salle in the City goes backstage at the Met

La Salle Academy’s latest La Salle in the City excursion was a showstopper for students! Earlier this month, 11 boys participated in a unique 90-minute backstage tour of the Metropolitan Opera House at Lincoln Center.

Conducted by Met Opera Guild members, the tour exposed La Salle’s students to production areas usually not seen or imagined by the general public. Sets were being built and costumes were being created. The students also saw how sets were being placed and removed by huge machinery operating on a multi-tiered stage by hundreds of union employees. The students could hear the singers rehearse as well as see blocking in raked rehearsal rooms for upcoming productions.

The history of the old and new Met was discussed by a very knowledgeable tour guide but not before everyone took a seat in the nearly empty auditorium to experience the vast size of the 3,800 seat hall and the jaw-dropping 103 by 90 foot stage.

LSA celebrates Black History Month Mass at St. Pat’s

La Salle Academy was the only Catholic high school to participate in the Black History Month Mass at St. Patrick’s Cathedral on Sunday, February 1st. More than 20 La Salle students and their families attended the Mass that was celebrated by Timothy Cardinal Dolan.

The La Salle family occupied the first six pews of the Church. Senior Noah Griffith ’15 gave the first reading while La Salle’s student government leadership, including Noah, Aidan Gomes ’15, and Adrian Corbin ’15, led the procession. His Eminence acknowledged La Salle’s presence and peeled off the procession to speak with the boys privately. After the Mass, he told Noah that he loved seeing the “sea of Cardinal red sweaters” and requested one for himself.
