Summer Readiness Program
The Pre-Freshmen Experience
Program Dates: July 8 – July 31, 2013
Program Cost: $200
Program Objective
To meet the challenges of providing an excellent education to our young men, La Salle conducts a Summer Readiness Program (SRP) – an intensive, month long program for 8th graders accepted to La Salle.
The main focus of the SRP is to provide incoming freshmen with academic support that will prepare them for their high school studies at La Salle. The program includes three components: English, Math, and Study Skills. In addition to classroom instruction, the SRP introduces incoming freshmen to the culture of structure and discipline at La Salle.
Additional Information
The English component of the SRP includes reading, writing skills, exposing the students to the basics of writing and presenting a formal paper on one of the two summer reading books assigned. The Mathematics component is pre-algebra, presented in a skills development model. The Study Skills component is designed to introduce and strengthen students’ study skills at home as well as at school, by identifying the various factors for an effective study environment. Students learn about developing and using time management, and they practice efficient reading for comprehension.
