In Memoriam: Louis Corso ’60

It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Louis Corso from La Salle Academy’s class of 1960. Mr. Corso was an active member of the La Salle community for decades. Under the leadership of La Salle Board Trustee, Brother Carl Malacalza, FSC, Mr. Corso and his wife, Luba, helped launch La Salle’s first Spring Gala in 1991. Mr. Corso hosted this event for many years at his restaurant SPQR in Little Italy, helping to raise scholarship funds for La Salle’s young men.

“Louis Corso was a benefactor of La Salle Academy. Because of both Louis and Luba, I was able to get our development efforts started at LSA. Their example encouraged others to be as generous. They not only sponsored many students, but opened up their 600-seat restaurant for many fundraising occasions, covering all the costs. When they sold the restaurant, they opened up their home for similar events,” said Brother Carl, who was named La Salle Academy’s first President in 1993 after serving two years as Principal.

“Both Louis and Luba truly demonstrated the spirit of De La Salle in their commitment to our work and through their actions,” said Brother Carl.

Like a true Brothers’ Boy, Mr. Corso stayed faithful to his alma mater until his passing. He will always be remembered for his generous spirit and kind heart. He will be sorely missed. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family.
