LA SALLE ACADEMY TO HOST 26TH ANNUAL GALA AT THE PIERRE:

SCHOLARSHIP DINNER TO HIT RECORD $1 MILLION IN PROCEEDS

East Village, N.Y., May 4, 2017 – La Salle Academy’s 26th Annual Spring Gala will be held Thursday, May 11th at The Pierre in Manhattan beginning at 6:00 P.M. This year’s gala will honor the following esteemed alumni for their heartfelt dedication and commitment to La Salle:

  • Edward “Joe” Cecala ’66, General Manager, The Watson Hotel
  • The Cunningham Family: James Cunningham ’41 (posthumously), Thomas Cunningham ’71, Vice President of Finance and Administration, College of New Rochelle, and Sean Cunningham ’75, Managing Director, Deloitte Advisory
  • Richard P. Libretti ’60, Principal, Sandler O’Neill + Partners

La Salle will also be honoring George J. Delagrammatikas with the Educator of the Year award. Delagrammatikas is Associate Professor of Mechanical Engineering and Program Director of STEM Outreach with the Albert Nerkin School of Engineering at The Cooper Union.

“I have been fortunate to experience, both as a La Salle student and now an alumnus, the positive impact a Catholic education has on the life of a young man. The funding raised from this event will allow more students to attend La Salle and benefit from the same extraordinary opportunities that a Lasallian education has provided to me and my classmates,” shared Salvatore LaRocca ’82, President of Global Partnerships, National Basketball Association. LaRocca is serving as 2017 Gala Co-Chair alongside fellow La Salle alumnus Vincent Tese ’60, Executive Chairman, Florida Community Bank.

Dr. Catherine Guerriero, President of La Salle Academy, stated, “This annual scholarship dinner raises upwards of $1 million each year, allowing La Salle Academy to accept the best and brightest students into her hallways, regardless of financial need. One hundred percent of the proceeds benefit our scholarship fund and help support our mission to educate young men of diverse cultural, ethnic and socioeconomic backgrounds.”

This year celebrates 169 years of Catholic education in the Lasallian tradition in New York City. The mission of La Salle Academy, a rigorous college-preparatory high school, is to educate students of diverse cultural and socio-economic backgrounds with special out-reach to those most in need. We provide a nurturing environment, which fosters spiritual, moral, intellectual, emotional and physical growth in the Roman Catholic tradition and the Lasallian spirit, as embodied in St. John Baptist de La Salle. We create experiences of community within the school and encourage each student to develop their gifts and talents for their own growth, as well as engage in the caring service of others, through its academic, extra-curricular and spiritual programs.
