Brooklyn, NY, April 26, 2016 – The La Salle JV Cardinals jumped out to an early 5-0 lead and never looked back as they defeated St. John’s Prep 11-1 at American Legion Field. The win improves the Cards to 2-2, in league play, (4-5 overall) and temporarily bumps them into 2nd place in the CHSAA – A Division.
Starting strong, LSA got on the board in the bottom of the first as the first five batters all reached safely and eventually came around to score for a 5-0 lead. Finish strong, the Cards closed out the scoring with four runs in the bottom of the six padding the lead to 11-0. St. John’s spoiled the shutout bid with a run in the top of the seventh.
La Salle’s offense was led by Nicholas Rivera, Brian Sanchez and Jeffrey Tejeda who had two hits apiece. For the second time in as many wins, the JV birds did not make any errors in stark contrast to their games against Nazareth.
The Angry Bird, for outstanding player of the game was given to Franklin Olivares who was not only exceptional on the mound in picking up the victory but also helped himself at the plate with a 2-RBI double in the aforementioned first.
