LSA Soccer Falls to St. Raymond’s in CHSAA Quarterfinals
CARDINALS ELIMINATED FROM PLAYOFFS
Thursday, November 1, 2018, Bronx, NY– After playing to a tight 0-0 draw through 
the first 40 minutes, the La Salle Cardinals gave up 3 second half goals and were eliminated from the 2018 CHSAA B Division Soccer Playoffs, 3-1 at the hands of the St. Raymond Ravens at AFC Rapids Field in the Bronx.
Frustrated for the entire first half, St. Raymond got on the board first, off a direct kick just outside the 18-yard box to the left that was tucked in to the back corner. They added a second goal before La Salle’s freshman, Aaron Parajon, knocked in a goalie misplay for his first of the season to cut the deficit in half at 2-1. However, the Ravens added a goal off a scramble in front of the net to ice the game at 3-1.
The end of the season closes out the La Salle careers for 12 seniors, including Striker, Ernesto Castelan, who finished with a team high 27 goals and a nomination to the Mayor’s Cup (PSAL vs CHSAA) match.

La Salle Soccer Advances to Quarterfinals
Monday, October 29, 2018, Gerritsen Beach Park, Brooklyn – Playing their 
most complete game of the season, the La Salle Cardinals finally got back in the win column with a shutout victory over St. Edmund Prep in the first round of the CHSAA Soccer Playoffs.
Zion Jackson-Avila scored his first goal of the season five minutes in off a laser shot from the top of the box and he later added a second goal to ice the game. Ernesto Castelan scored his 27th goal of the season and seniors Ricardo Rosas & Nathaniel Arenillas contributed a goal each to cap the scoring. Junior goalie, Brian Bazan got the win as a stout defense earned La Salle’s first shutout of the season.
Next Game: The Cardinals have a Quarter-Final match against the St. Raymond Ravens on Thursday, November 1st at AFC Rapids Field in the Bronx. Kick-off is 3pm.
La Salle Cardinals fall to All Hallows 6-2
Thursday, October 11, 2018, Manhattan – The La Salle soccer Cardinals fell 6-2 to All Hallows at East River Park on Thursday afternoon.
La Salle was shut out in the first half and trailed 0-3 to start the second half. Senior striker Ernesto Castelan finally got the Cards on the board in the 2nd half but All Hallows answered back with three goals of their own before La Salle’s freshmen winger, Aaron Parajon, recorded the first goal of the season with a tap-in.
Next Match: La Salle will host the the final home game of the season for La Salle against Mount St. Michael on Wednesday, October 18th. Kickoff is slated for 4:00pm at East River Park, Soccer Field #1.
Cardinal Soccer Falls at Saint Edmund
Friday, September 14, Gerritsen Beach Park, Brooklyn– The La Salle Cardinals 
soccer team got off to another slow start and fell behind 0-2 at the 10-minute mark of the 1st half before eventually losing 6-4 to St. Edmund Prep in a CHSAA divisional game at All American Field in Brooklyn. The loss drops La Salle to 0-2 to begin the 2018 campaign.
St. Edmund got on the board quickly after two LSA defensive lapses that created the 
scoring opportunities, one on a breakaway and the other on a direct kick, both of which found the back of the net. La Salle senior striker, Ernesto Castelan, single-handedly brought the Cardinals back to life, scoring all four Cardinal goals of the game. Unfortunately, the team needed some more help to get La Salle into the win column.
La Salle Soccer is back in action on Tuesday against Cristo Rey Brooklyn. Kickoff is scheduled for 4pm at Linden Park in Brooklyn.
La Salle Soccer: Shut out & Knocked out of the Playoffs
Wednesday, November 1, 2017, Brooklyn, NY – The La Salle Cardinals took a tough loss as they were shut out and knocked out of the 2017 CHSAA Soccer playoffs by virtue of a tough 2-0 loss to the South division’s #1 seed, Cathedral Prep at Aviator Sports Complex. La Salle’s ends with a final record of 6-8-1 on the year.
The Cardinals had trouble building an offense all game and unfortunately, the shots they got just missed the mark.

La Salle Soccer: Cardinals Fall Short to Sacred Heart in Season Finale
Wednesday, October 25, 2017, Yonkers, NY – In their final tune-up before the playoffs, the La Salle Cardinals came out flat in the second half and suffered a 5-2 loss to Sacred Heart at Fleming Park in Yonkers. With the loss, the Cardinals finished the regular season at 5-7-1, in fourth place in the CHSAA “B” Division North, and will host a 1st round playoff game on Monday, October 30th.
John Heras scored his fourth goal of the season and Ernesto Castelan contributed his team leading 14th goal of the season but it wasn’t enough to overcome an effective Sacred Heart offense.
Next Match: The 2017 CHSAA “B” Soccer Playoffs begin on Monday, October 30th. La Salle will host the #5 seed from the South Division, the Bishop Loughlin Lions. The match is set for a 3:00pm kickoff at Field #44 on Randall’s Island.
La Salle Soccer Shuts Out St. Raymond’s 3-0
Monday, October 16, 2017, Bronx, NY – After a scoreless first half, the La Salle Cardinals soccer team tallied three goals after the intermission for a 3-0 victory over the St. Raymond Ravens at AFC Rapids Field to improve their record to 5-4-1.
La Salle goal keeper, Emanuel Garcia, kept the Cardinals in the game during a tense first half with a tremendous diving save on a penalty kick off the foot of Raven’s. Garcia also had a beautiful kick save off a PK rebound late in the second half to preserve his fourth win and second shutout of the year.
Freshman, Valon Dudus got La Salle on the board in the 48th minute with his third goal of the season. Ernesto Castelan notched his team leading 11th goal in the 52nd minute and senior winger, Christian Toledano completed the scoring with his third goal, a laser shot to the right corner from 17 yards.
Next Game: The push for the playoffs gets another stern test on Wednesday as La Salle hosts CHSAA B Division leaders and undefeated All Hallows on the pitch in Central Park – North Meadow Field #5.
Kickoff is set for 4:00pm.
Students Attend NY Red Bulls Home Opener
A group of La Salle students, including most of the Cardinal soccer team, attended the
home opener of the New York Red Bulls match on Saturday, March 11th! It was a cold day for soccer, but the boys were all smiles as they cheered on the Red Bulls to victory over the Colorado Rapids. The boys hope to make it to a few more matches this season. Go Red Bulls!
Cardinal Soccer Trains With The New York Red Bulls
Bouna Coundoul, a former New York Red Bulls player and current trainer for the 
professional team, ran a two-hour clinic on Friday afternoon for twenty-five La Salle young men, most of whom are part of La Salle’s soccer team. The clinic was held in the school gym on 6th Street. Joined by La Salle Coach Pally, these young men worked tirelessly the entire clinic, running drills and practicing their penalty shots. Fifteen minutes into the session, the student athletes were already asking when the NY Red Bulls would be back. The students were able to learn about what it takes to make it to the professional level. Coundoul answered questions and signed autographs for the young men at the end of the session. The day was a great success. La Salle Academy would like to thank the New York Red Bulls for this special event.
Soccer Season Comes to a Close!
As the season of fall comes to a close, so does the soccer season for La Salle. The Varsity Soccer team fell to Spellman in the CHSAA quarterfinals yesterday by the score of 5-0. The team fought hard, but Spellman took advantage of their chances at the mercy of La Salle. Unfortunately, this ends the soccer season for the Cardinals. The team has a great group of seniors that will be graduating this June and they all deserve recognition for their efforts and dedication. The rest of the team will be taking a break to regroup and recover before they begin their off-season workouts. Congratulations on a hard-fought season, boys! Go La Salle!
Soccer Fights Valiantly
The Varsity soccer team fell to Spellman by the score of 3-1 on Tuesday, October 25th at East River Park. The team fought valiantly with a number of players out injured but we ultimately came up short. Down 2-0 in the 2nd half, Eduardo Torres scored to cut the
deficit in half. From there we had a number of chances to tie the game but couldn’t find the equalizer. Spellman scored their third goal with 5 minutes left, as we were pushing forward, to put the game away. Our next and final regular season game is Thursday at East River Park Field #1 at 4pm.
Cardinal Soccer Defeats Mt. St. Michael’s!
On Wednesday, October 19th, the varsity soccer team defeated Mt. St. Michael’s by the score of 2-1. Senior, Jason Criollo scored both goals to bring his team leading total to 8. Senior Wilson Alexei
and Sophomore Ricardo Rosas played exceptional in the back to help maintain the lead. The next game is Friday at Kennedy Catholic at 4pm. Come cheer on this stellar group of Cardinals!
This Week In Soccer: Head to Head With St. Peter’s
Monday, October 10, 2016 – The varsity soccer team tied St. Peter’s 0-0 in Staten 
Island. In a very hard fought game our defense led by senior Derek Criollo really stepped up and our goalkeeper, junior Leonardo Velez, played his best game of the year. It was a very well played game and both teams deserved the point that they received.
Wednesday, October 12, 2016 – The varsity soccer team tied St. Peter’s 2-2 at East River Park. Down 2-0 in the 2nd half the team rallied from behind to achieve a very hard fought point. Senior Jason Criollo added his team leading 6th goal of the season with about 20 minutes left to pull La Salle within one goal and senior Michael Garces scored his first goal of the season in his first game back from injury with about 5 minute
s left in the game to tie the score. Both teams had chances in the final minutes but the game ended in a draw. Our next game is Friday at 4pm vs. Spellman @ East River Park Field 3.
La Salle Soccer Highlights
One month into the school year, and La Salle young men are succeeding in the classroom as well as on the soccer field. The Cardinals are working hard to make this soccer season one to remember!
Soccer began their league season on September 12 with a 5-2 loss to the defending city 
champions, St. Joseph by the Sea. Leading the team with goals were senior Jason Criollo and sophomore Ernesto Castelan with his first career goal.
After coming away with a great win, La Salle came up short again McClancy on September 16 with a 3-0 loss. McClancy added a third goal late in the second half for the final.
These Cardinals were back at it with a big win against Mr. St. Michael, crushing the game with a 5-0 final score. Junior Vince Arias scored his first career goal and senior Eduardo Torres added his first of the season. Senior Jason Criollo had three goals of his own to bring his team leading total to four on the season. Goalkeeper Leonardo Velez and our back four led by seniors Michael Garces and Derek Criollo led an outstanding offensive line that resulted in well deserved shutout.
Unfortunately, La Salle soccer fell to Kennedy Catholic by the score of 5-3 at Chelsea Park 
on September 26. In a very exciting game the team battled throughout and almost completed the comeback before ultimately falling short. Sophomore Ernesto Castelan scored all 3 of tour goals today.
Cheer the team on for a win against Salesian today, September 30 at 6pm.
La Salle Soccer Defeats St. Edmunds
The La Salle Academy soccer team defeated St. Edmund’s by the score of 3-1 on Wednesday, October 22. Our defense including seniors, Brandon Molina and Angel Colon, junior, Michael Garces, and sophomore, Cristian Toledano, played an outstanding game. Senior goalkeeper, Julian Avirama, picked up his first career win. Our next game is Friday afternoon at McClancy.
La Salle Soccer Perseveres in Friday’s Game
The La Salle Varsity Soccer team lost a tough game on Friday, October 2, to Salesian by a 3-1 result. Playing in tough conditions the boys had a furious rally to score a goal and come extremely close to putting another couple in the net but unfortunately it was not to be. Senior Cristian Perez was our goal scorer in the loss. The boys showed great toughness in the loss as they never gave up. This brings our record to 2-2 and our next game is scheduled for Monday against Mount St. Michael’s.
Soccer starts their season with a win!
The soccer team won their first game of the season today by the score of 6-2 over St. Edmund’s. Five different players scored goals, including two from Senior Cristian Perez and one from Junior Jayden Lucas, Junior Eduardo Torres, Sophomore Bryan Otavalo and Senior Damiano Nicolosi. It was a very well-played game by all 25 players as everyone got into the game and produced. This brings our record to 1-1 and our next game is Wednesday. Go La Salle!
Varsity Soccer Tryouts Begin Aug. 24!
To all interested players: Varsity Soccer tryouts will begin on Monday, August 24th, at 9:00am.
All players must meet at the school no later than 8:30am and will walk to the field with the coaches. Please bring all necessary equipment (cleats, shin guards, water, etc.) with you. All players must have their physicals in with the main office to be allowed to play.
