Cardinal Dolan Celebrates Mass at La Salle Academy

CARDINAL DOLAN CELEBRATES ALL SAINTS DAY MASS,

BLESSES CHAPEL AT LA SALLE ACADEMY

East Village, N.Y., November 1, 2017 – La Salle Academy welcomed His Eminence, Timothy Cardinal Dolan, Archbishop of New York, to its Sixth Street campus this morning to celebrate Mass for All Saints Day. La Salle’s gymnasium was transformed into a chapel for a crowd of 450 attendees, including students, faculty, staff, alumni, benefactors and the Superintendent of Schools for the Archdiocese, Dr. Timothy McNiff.

“I thank La Salle Academy for the magnificent example of a splendid Catholic education that is going on here,” Cardinal Dolan said, acknowledging the congregation during his homily. Cardinal Dolan mentioned that Dr. McNiff shares his admiration for the school.

“You have done a great job here, and it really gives us all hope that things can go well, that great schools like this can continue to succeed. It takes a lot of determination and hope to do what you have done here and turn it all around,” said Cardinal Dolan. “The path was – and is – not easy. It takes a lot of trust and faith to get through things. La Salle is flourishing now with a hopeful future. You got it right.”

Following the Mass, Cardinal Dolan blessed the new school Chapel that has been incorporated into La Salle’s third floor expansion, visited with alumni and students at a lovely breakfast reception and took a tour of the school. “Wonderful,” “gritty,” and “hardworking” were just a few of the words Cardinal Dolan used to describe the community at La Salle.
