La Salle Academy’s August Recap

When our current Cardinals return to our building next week, they will benefit from the competence and care of our returning administration, faculty, and staff. They will also meet Ms. Nicole Freeman, our new Assistant Principal for Academic Affairs, and a few new teachers. We are pleased to partner with the University of Notre Dame and welcome one of their ACE Teaching Fellows, Ms. Natalie Arndt, to our learning community here at La Salle. Read more about our new faculty on our website.

In July, rising juniors Giovanni G.Jayden L. and Angel M. (pictured here in the center from left to right) took part in a Lasallian Youth Day of Service and Recreation. The young men volunteered at St. John the Baptist Food Pantry and had a chance to reflect on the service opportunity afterwards. Read more on our website!

Also in July, Brother Rich Galvin, pictured on the right with Rowan T. ’24, attended an event at The Sheen Center called Faith: The Competitive Edge featuring Major League Baseball Hall of Famer Mike Piazza. Piazza shared much about his life as a man of faith and how that was integrated into his life as an MLB star.

Some La Salle students were invited by Inner-City Scholarship Fund (ICSF) to attend a recent New York Yankees game in the Bronx. ICSF is an Archdiocesan organization that provides external scholarship funding to some of our students. Featured here enjoying the game are Sam W. ’24 and Emmanuel P. ’25.

Xavier F. ’24 (pictured here with me and Ms. Conroy) completed a three-week Summer STEM program at The Cooper Union. Each summer our students have the opportunity to be a part of this unique program at the renowned institution located right next door to La Salle. Not pictured is Bryant D. ’25 who also participated in the program.

We hosted a Young Alumni Happy Hour on August 23rd at The Gray Mare. Alumni from the classes of 2015, 2016, and 2017 attended. If you are interested in learning more, contact Mr. Justin Talavera at 212-475-8940 ext. 204 or [email protected].

Our 27th Cardinal Classic Golf Outing is Thursday, September 22nd at Plandome Country Club. Register and learn more here or contact Ms. Daria Coney at 212-475-8940 ext. 301 or [email protected]. Join us for a beautiful day on the course!

What happens next? We teachers often wonder about the trajectory of a student’s life once he graduates. At La Salle, we care about each students’ fulfillment as a person, we want to learn how we can better prepare the young men for what’s ahead, and we would like to know of the impact our time and energy may have made on his growth during his adolescence. Next week, look out for an email from me about Franddy Rodriguez ’17, who was kind enough to share some of his story with us and has allowed us to share it with you.

Please pray for God’s blessing on all of us during the 22-23 academic year. Thank you for your affirmation of our mission and your investment in young men like those mentioned above.
