La Salle Academy’s June Recap

The word is spreading that La Salle is a small, friendly, safe place to receive a college-preparatory education in a Catholic school setting. The academic success of our most recent graduates and the growth of our partnership with St. Francis College are certainly factors. So, too, are the referrals from current students, their parents, and alumni.

After a recent tour, a potential student wrote me an email saying, “Your school was an absolute pleasure to visit. It is well-structured and perfectly oriented towards what my family and I have been looking for in a Manhattan school. La Salle Academy has the friendliness, hands-on learning, and college-level programs that I feel would prepare me for my future, to help me grow not only academically, but also as a person.” Applicants like this young man auger for a great future!

Commencement exercises took place for the Class of 2022 at St. Patrick’s Cathedral on 2 June. The right-hand photo features Valedictorian Frank Reyes (left) and Salutatorian Joshua Rocamora (right) addressing their classmates and families. Frank will attend NYU this fall and Josh will attend Stanford University. Of our 57 graduates, 53 will attend four-year colleges, one will attend a two-year college, one is going to trade school, and two are undecided. Of the 53 young men who will attend four-year schools, 24 are public colleges (including 14 CUNY and 5 SUNY) and, of the 29 non-public institutions, 15 are Catholic schools. You can view the entire list of colleges and universities that the Class of 2022 will be attending on our website.

Our 34th Annual Art Expo, directed by Ms. Mollie O’Mara, took place virtually again this year. Visit this link to view the winning artwork, including some by our very own student artists. Li H. ’23 (pictured) won for his black and white illustration and three seniors won for their skills in the Photography category. Special thanks to La Salle alumni Joshua Rocamora ’22 for designing the Expo website, Isaac Duncan ’92 for participating as a guest speaker, and Joe Perez ’98 for serving as a judge.

La Salle was proudly represented by a 4 x 8 relay team at the New York State Track Championships in Syracuse in mid-June. Coaches William Hackshaw and Peter Williams accompanied (pictured from left to right in the photo) Julian Q. ’23Joshua L. ’22Carlos T. ’22, and Sam W. ’24 on their trip upstate. Each of the younger runners achieved a personal best.

Our 30th Annual Scholarship Benefit was held on 9 June at Tribeca Rooftop in Manhattan. The event raised a half million dollars, proceeds of which benefit our scholarship fund. Many thanks to our donors! We were blessed with beautiful weather and fine company. If you did not have a chance to make a donation to the event, you can still do so by clicking here or by texting LSABENEFIT to 41444 from your cell phone.

Your prayers and financial investment in our students fuel our progress. Thanks, and please continue to provide us with these resources as we prepare to enter a new academic year this fall.

Enjoy a blessed summer!
