La Salle Fall Sports Summary

La Salle Academy’s fall sports are off to a solid start this year with key wins from our bowling and cross-country teams, despite pandemic-induced challenges.

On Tuesday, October 20th, the CHSAA bowling regular season opened at Astoria Lanes as La Salle faced Cathedral Prep for their first match. The JV team won their match, defeating their opponent all three games, while Varsity dropped their first match.

Last night, Varsity and JV faced Xaverian High School. Varsity was victorious in one out of three games set. Mariano M. ’22 shot a high game of 198, a 548 total high for the three-game series. JV won all three games and boosted their record to 2-0. Joshua R. ’22 led the charge with season high game of 217 and a 564 total for the three-game series. Jordan M. ’23 followed with a 511 series and Jon R. ’22 had a 193 high game. Both teams will take on Archbishop Molloy Tuesday, November 3rd at Astoria Lanes.

Cross-country started off the season in Van Cortlandt Park at the CHSAA Opener, named in honor of La Salle coach William Hackshaw, who served at several New York Archdiocesan schools throughout his stellar career. The Cardinals sprinted to wins in the first two meets of the season led by Shane C. ’21.

On Saturday, October 24th, the cross-country team traveled to the Ocean Breeze Athletic Facility to compete in the CHSAA Sectionals. The cross-country season enters the Championship rounds this Saturday, October 31st at Van Cortlandt Park.

On the soccer field, the Cardinals dropped three straight games after winning the opening match of the season. However, they improved their record to 2-3 with two games left in the regular season thanks to a solid 6-0 victory over Bishop Loughlin on Monday.

The Cardinals are led by co-captains, Valon D. ’21Aaron P. ’22 and Veton D. ’23. La Salle is set to return to action on Tuesday, November 3rd on Randall’s Island and will close out the season against Moore Catholic (Date TBD).
