La Salle Academy’s January Recap

We are at half-time in the school year and we are continuing play with a new game plan! As of February 1st, we embark on an experience that involves a hybrid model of education. Once again, our teachers are tapping their creativity, relying on their resilience, and caring for their students in a unique way.

A little over a quarter of the families of our students have opted to send their sons to our school building. That number will enable us to have the young men in that category on-site four days a week. Wednesday will be a day dedicated solely to remote education. Our arrangements are such that we can revert to a 100% online model whenever necessary. A top-quality college-preparatory education infused with Gospel values for each student continues to be the target, regardless of the approach.

The implementation of the recommendations from our COVID-19 Response Task Force, and the availability of a vaccine for teachers, are indicators we have contributed significantly to minimizing the health risk to all who enter our school building.

We are waiting for approval from New York State to determine whether high school winter sports seasons can be played with proper safety precautions. Baseball has been approved for spring participation and will commence in early April. More to come!

Congratulations to juniors Stanley E., Ralphie F., David G., Ernesto M., and Frank R., who successfully applied and were accepted as participants in the Job Opportunity Program (JOP.) Read about the program by clicking here.

We began hosting Virtual Alumni Reunions for graduating classes ending in 1 and 6 this month. So far, we have touched base with alumni from the Classes of 1951, 1956, 1986 and 1991. Next up are the reunions for the Classes of 1961 and 2001 on Thursday, February 4th. Contact Ms. Daria Coney at 212-475-8940 ext. 301 or [email protected] to RSVP and learn more. You can also view the upcoming schedule here on our website.

Our Development Office has been coordinating virtual meetings between Lasallian Patrons and their students this month. We’ve had Patrons all the way from the state of Washington call in to meet the students they financially support. If you’d like to learn more about becoming a Lasallian Patron, please contact Ms. Ismini Scouras at 212-475-8940 ext. 204 or [email protected] or click here.

Concurrent with our daily duties in the present are activities associated with the future. The Strategic Planning Committee of our Board of Trustees has commenced its work and our Admissions Committee is vetting applications for our Class of 2025.

We inaugurated an application process that is completely online. It is followed by an enrollment process that also avoids the use of paper. Students are now selecting their high school from among those where they were accepted. To date, we have offered seats to 120 young men. We know not all will enroll, and we also know from our history that applications will continue to arrive. We are anticipating an incoming class of at least 65 students. We are looking forward to welcoming a talented group of fledgling Cardinals to La Salle Academy’s Class of 2025!

God bless!
