LA SALLE ACADEMY ANNOUNCES NEW PRESIDENT

New York, N.Y., 28 April 2023 – La Salle Academy is pleased to announce Dr. Thomas S. Fitzmaurice as President of La Salle Academy effective July 1, 2023.  With the endorsement of the Executive Committee of the Board of Trustees and his appointment by the Members of the District of Eastern North America of the Brothers of the Christian Schools, Dr. Fitzmaurice joins La Salle with years of experience in both Catholic education and business.

Dr. Fitzmaurice currently teaches in higher education as a finance professor at Mount Saint Mary College and has teaching experience on the secondary level as a physics teacher at both Cardinal Hayes High School in the Bronx and The Mary Louis Academy in Queens.  He also worked for the Archdiocese of New York as a business manager for its Global Regional School System.  Prior to his career in education, Dr. Fitzmaurice worked for several years as a financial professional at JPMorgan Chase, HSBC Bank, and ING.

He holds both PhD and MS degrees in Education from Fordham University, an MBA in Finance from the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School, and a BE in Engineering from Manhattan College.

Dr. Fitzmaurice grew up in Queens and currently lives with his wife and three children in Yonkers.   As a graduate of Catholic schools at every level, which includes being a proud alumnus of Manhattan College, Dr. Fitzmaurice has a first-hand appreciation for the benefits of both a Catholic and a Lasallian education.

“I consider myself blessed to have had the opportunity to receive a Catholic education,” said Dr. Fitzmaurice.  “While the academic needs of students are constantly evolving, the need for a Catholic education rooted in the teachings of Jesus Christ is as essential today as it was when La Salle Academy opened its doors in New York City 175 years ago.”

Dr. Fitzmaurice succeeds Brother Thomas Casey, FSC who is retiring at the conclusion of his term as La Salle’s President.

“We are delighted to welcome Tom as the next President of La Salle Academy,” said Salvatore LaRocca, Chairman of the Board of Trustees.  “The combination of experience in Catholic education, the Archdiocese, and in the business sector uniquely qualify Tom to lead La Salle Academy in the future”.
