La Salle Academy’s December Recap

When I shared a reflection about Christmas with my colleagues at our faculty and staff Christmas party, I commented that hope in the promise of humble beginnings was integral to the message of the manger in Bethlehem and key to the reason for our school on East 6th Street. We rejoice in hope this season and, as this monthly recap indicates, La Salle Academy continues to be a place where hope is nurtured and the tools to sustain the fulfillment of young dreams are supplied…and young men are taught how to use them.

We wrapped up the year with gratitude as seniors were accepted into colleges, potential Cardinals for next year applied in increased numbers, donations exceeded last year’s total, and the formulation of our four-year strategic plan neared completion.

La Salle’s Green Team harvested their hydroponics produce just in time for the holidays! They donated their harvest to the Good Companion Senior Center in lower Manhattan.

Senior Louis C. ’23 was awarded the Posse Scholarship, a full tuition leadership scholarship to attend Babson College in Massachusetts.

La Salle’s Digital Yearbook Collection is now LIVE! Click here to view the library. If you don’t see a yearbook in our digital library and you have a copy in your possession, please contact Ms. Zenaida Sonberg at 212-475-8940 ext. 205 or [email protected]

Our varsity basketball team took to the hardwood in Colonie, NY and participated in the Christian Brothers Academy Holiday Basketball Tournament. Our students had the opportunity to visit CBA, a fellow Lasallian school, and compete against teams from the Capital District.

Before the Christmas break we hosted a 2000’s Alumni Holiday Happy Hour for the classes of 2000-2018 at The Gray Mare.

We will be hosting several more gatherings throughout the year. If you are interested in attending future gatherings, please contact Mr. Justin Talavera at 212-475-8940 ext. 204 or [email protected].

Sincere gratitude to all who have journeyed with us in 2022. Your prayers, your donations, and your belief in La Salle’s mission and its impact on young lives have made a positive difference in our society.

This monthly recap is the last that I compose with significant assistance from our Director of Advancement and Communications, Ms. Daria Coney. She has accepted a new position at a school near her home where she will have a much shorter commute. I am appreciative of her almost seven years of service to La Salle Academy and wish her Godspeed.

I ask Saint John Baptist de La Salle to pray for all the recipients of this message and may God bless each of you abundantly every day of 2023!

Brother Thomas P. Casey, FSC
